REFUTATION TO ABDUL HALEEM'S ARTICLE: CONTRADICTION IN RESURRECTION STORY

Abdul Haleem a Muslim Contributor to Osama Abdulluh's Website http://www.answering-christianity.com made an Article and alleged supposed Contradictions in the Resurrection accounts. I will will by God's help answer these arguments and prove to you guys that The Bible has no Contradictions.

Here is his Article:

Contradictions In the Resurrection Story

1. Matthew 28:1 states two women (Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary) came to the tomb; Mark 16:1 states it was three women (Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome); Luke 24:10 agrees it was three women but gives a different list of three than Mark (Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James); John 20:1 states it was only Mary Magdalene.
2. Mark 16:2 states "the sun had risen" at the time of this visit, while John 20:1 states "it was still dark."
3. Matthew 28:2 says "an angel" "came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it"Mark 16:5 says the women encountered "a young man sitting at the right" of the tomb (rather than upon the stone); Luke 24:4 says they saw "two men" who "suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing"; inJohn 20:1, Mary Magdalene saw nothing other than a moved stone.
4. There is also a discrepancy as to whatever dialogue occurred between this angel(s) or man (men) and the women: Matthew 28:5-7 and Mark 16:6-7 generally agree the women were told that Jesus (peace be upon him) had risen, and instructed to advise the disciples that "He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him" (Matthew 28:7), and ; Luke 24:6-7 contains no instruction to advise the disciples about an appearance by Issa in Galilee.
5. To whom did Jesus (peace be upon him) appear first: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary as Matthew 28:9 claims? Mary Magdalene only asMark 16:9 claims? Cephas (Peter) and then the other disciples, as 1 Corinthians 15:5 claims? Matthew 28:9 claims that Issa (peace be upon him) appeared before the women even had reported to the disciples what the found (or didnt) at the tomb. Also in Mark 16:9 the appearance to Mary Magdalene was before Mary made any report to the disciples. However, John and Luke report no appearance before the women  reported an empty tomb to the disciples.
6. Which disciples went to the tomb: Peter alone (Luke 24:12)? Peter and John (John 20:2-8)? Did the disciples believe the reports of the women (or woman) and proceed to Galilee, as Matthew 28:16 claims? Or did they disbelieve these reports as Mark 16:11 and Luke 24:11claim?
7. In appearing to the disciples, to whom did Jesus (peace be upon him) first appear: All eleven together (Matthew 28:17-18)? Two of them on the road, then to all eleven together (Mark 16:12-14 and Luke 24:13-31)? To ten of the eleven (minus Thomas) together (John 20:19-24)? To Peter, then the others (1 Corinthians 15:5)? The story recounted in John 20:25-29 is all premised on an appearance of Jesus (peace be upon him) before the disciples at which Thomas was not present! Matthew 28:17-18, Mark 16:12-14 and Luke 24:13-31 all disagree with John about any such meeting taking place in the absence of Thomas!
8. In Acts and the Gospel of Luke, the disciples were commanded to stay in Jerusalem and, in fact, met Jesus (peace be upon him) there (seeActs 1:4 and Luke 24:33, 47, 49). In Matthew 28:10 and Mark 16:6-7, the disciples are commanded to go to Galilee, and in Matthew 28:16-18, we are told they see Jesus (peace be upon him) there, not in or near Jerusalem!
9. Mark says that after appearing before the eleven disciples together in Gallilee, Jesus (peace be upon him) ascended to Heaven (Mark 16: 14, 19). Luke says Jesus (peace be upon him) ascended to Heaven at Bethany after walking with the disciples some time (Luke 24:50-51). John says Jesus (peace be upon him) appeared to the disciples at three times and that some of these appearances were near the Sea of Gallilee (Lake Tiberias) (John 21:1, 14). According to Acts the disciples were at Mt. Olivet, a days journey from Jerusalem, when the ascension occurred (Acts 1:9-12).
10. In 1 Corinthians 15:5-8, it is claimed that Jesus (peace be upon him) appeared to more than five hundred witnesses before his ascent to heaven - a claim directly contradicted at least by Mark, who says the ascension occurred immediately after an appearance before the eleven disciples (Mark 16: 14, 19).

Continuation from me, Osama Abdallah:
If these books were truly authored and inspired by the One and Only Divine Author, GOD Almighty, then we wouldn't see:
1-  Third-party narrations narrated by mysterious authors.
2-  Ridiculous variations and contradictions as clearly seen above.   Some Christians claim that these variations "compliment" each others.   This is absurd to say the least, because the contradictions of missing characters, events, and/or places are obvious, and the so-called "variations" only create confusion and further prove that they weren't authored by One Author (GOD Almighty), because we don't know based on the narrations above what really took place!  Different versions, different events and different contradicting accounts.

Only absurd and bias people would claim that this all from GOD Almighty!

Different and conflicting variations of "gospels" and "books" that are disagreed upon by the Churches today.

Back to Contradictions and Errors in the Bible.

Let us Begin:

I will post his Questions step by step and answer them step by step so you guys can follow with me.

So According to Abdul Matthew,Mark,John all supposedly contradict one another on how many women they were or what their names were when they went to the tomb.

I will post the Verses Back to back

28 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.

So According to Matthew Mary and another Mary went to the Tomb.

16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of [a]James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him.

According to Mark Mary,Mary mother of James and Salome went to the Tomb.

10 Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.

According to Luke Mary,Mary mother of James,Joanna and other Women were at the tomb.

20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene *came early to the tomb, while it *was still dark, and *saw the stone already taken away from the tomb.

And According to John Mary went to the Tomb.

The answer to this Question is Easy.

The Authors are Telescoping the story, some of them choose to mention the two Mary's while others add more Detail to the story.

HOW IS THIS A CONTRADICTION.

No where if you read all 4 accounts of this incident will you see any of the authors say that ONLY MARY AND ONLY MARY MOTHER OF JAMES WERE AT THE TOMB. The fact of the Matter is that some of the authors put in more Detail while the others didn't.

For Example if you say I went on Vacation, does that mean that you only could have went alone or could that also mean that you could have also went on Vacation with someone else.

Abdul Knows this is a Pathetic argument because Human beings and even himself speak like this all the Time.

None of the Accounts deny that Other women came with Mary, they just didn't add in specific Details that the others have.

Let's Continue

2. Mark 16:2 states "the sun had risen" at the time of this visit, while John 20:1 states "it was still dark."

So According to Abdul Mark and John Contradict one another because one says it was Dark and the other says the Sun had Risen.

Here are the verses

Very early on the first day of the week, they *came to the tomb when the sun had risen.

So according to  Mark when they came to the tomb the Sun had Risen.

20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene *came early to the tomb, while it *was still dark, and *saw the stone already taken away from the tomb.

So According to John when Mary Magdalene went to the Tomb it was still Dark.

The answer to this question is Easy.

Both Mark and John agree that it was VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING so they actually both agree that it was Dark.

While Mary was making her way to the tomb the sun had already started to rise when it was still Dark, however eventually when she Got to the Tomb the sun eventually rose.

Both accounts perfectly agree because they both say Mary Left VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING SO IT WAS DARK. While she was walking it was Dark and when she went to the tomb it was still Dark, however eventually the Sun rose when she was there.

NOTE: John does not say that the Sun had ALREADY Risen when Mary Got there, he just simply says that the The Sun Had Risen. So to put both stories together It was Very Early In the Morning when Mary made her way to the tomb, which both Gospels agree, so it was Dark. And when Mary Got to the Tomb it was still Dark, however eventually the Sun Rose as John says.

No Contradiction

Let's Continue:

3. Matthew 28:2 says "an angel" "came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it"; Mark 16:5 says the women encountered "a young man sitting at the right" of the tomb (rather than upon the stone); Luke 24:4 says they saw "two men" who "suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing"; inJohn 20:1, Mary Magdalene saw nothing other than a moved stone.

Abdul thinks all four Gospel contradict because they describe different things that the Women saw regarding angelic beings.

And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.

So according to Matthew an Angel sat on the Rock and rolled it away

Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.

So according to Mark when they ENTERED the Tomb they saw a young Man sitting wearing a white Robe.

So according to Luke 2 men stood near them ALL OF A SUDDEN.

20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene *came early to the tomb, while it *was still dark, and *saw the stone already taken away from the tomb.

So according to John Mary just saw the Moved stone.

To answer this is simple,

Matthew makes mention of the Angel who rolled the Stone away and sat on it. Mark makes mention of the Angels who appeared INSIDE the tomb when the women ENTERED the Tomb. Luke makes mention of the 2 men/Angels that appeared all of a sudden and John makes no mention of the Angels and just says that the tomb was empty.

No contradiction here whatsoever

John Telescopes the events of the story and cuts out scenes that the other Gospel Writers made mention of.

Let's Continue:

Abdul alleges supposed contradictions in regards to whether or not did the Angel gave instructions.

The angel said to the women, “[a]Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

So According to Matthew The Angel gave instructions to the women to advise the Disciples that Jesus will appear in Galilee

And he *said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’”

Also according Mark The Angel gave instructions to the women as well to advise the Disciples that Jesus will be appear in Galilee.

Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

So according to Matthew the Angel did not give instructions to advise the Disciples that Jesus will appear in Galilee

He is not here, but He has [a]risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

And according to Luke The Angel did not give instructions to advise the Disciples that Jesus will appear in Galilee.

The answer to this question is easy again, the authors did not put in specific details that the others have chosen to do. This is called summarizing or telescoping events in stories. Just because one Writer says this didn't happen doesn't mean it didn't happen hence the Gospel writers do not include every specific detail.

Let's Move on:

And behold, Jesus met them [a]and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.

So Jesus meets the Women First according to Matthew

[[a]Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.

So according to Mark Jesus appeared to Mary as well.

and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

So According to Paul in Corinthians Jesus appeared to Caphas and then the Disciples.

The  answer to this Question is Easy Jesus First appeared to the Women as they were the First to Witness the Empty Tomb, No where does Paul in Corinthians say that Jesus FIRST APPEARED TO CEPHAS AND THEN THE DISCIPLES. Abdul assumes that Just because Paul says Jesus appeared to Cephas then that automatically means he must have appeared to him First which is Ridiculous.Jesus appeared to the Women FIRST and then afterwards he appeared to Cephas and his Disciples.

He then says that Mark reports an appearance before Mary went to Go tell the Disciples while Luke and John Report no appearances and some how this a Contradiction. When Many many times now I have made clear that not every author puts in Detail that other's have put in. It's called telescoping or summarizing to suit your purpose for your viewers.

No Contradiction

And we move on:

12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings [a]only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.

So Peter went to the tomb according to Luke

So she *ran and *came to Simon Peter and to the otherdisciple whom Jesus loved, and *said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; and stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. And so Simon Peter also *came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he *saw the linen wrappings lyingthere, and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed.

So according to John Peter and another Disciple went into the Tomb.

The answer again to this pathetic claim is that Luke does not mention the other Disciple that Peter came with. He just ,mentions that Peter went into the Tomb, while John Makes mention of the Other disciple and adds in more information about the Story.Abdul has to stop using pathetic arguments that end up refuting himself and thousands of News Papers that he reads that gets published every day.

Such Desperation!!!!!!

16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.

According to Matthew the Disciples proceeded to Galilee where Jesus had Designated.

11 When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they refused to believe it.

So the Disciples refused to believe the Women according to Mark

11 But these words appeared [a]to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.

And according to Luke the Disciples did not believe as well.

First point is that starting from Mark 16:9 the rest is not in the earlier manuscripts so even if I were to give Abdul the Benefit of the Doubt they would still be no contradiction because Mark 16:11 isn't in the Earlier Manuscripts. However even with the Later additions I will refute his claims.

The answer to this Question is Easy Matthew says that the Disciples went to Galilee to see Jesus, while  Luke and Mark claim that the Disciples did not Believe. Number 1 what does the disciples doubting have to do with meeting Jesus in Galilee, that's number 1. And Second, some of the Disciples were in doubt however they eventually believed in the risen Jesus. The Disciples did not doubt meeting Jesus in Galilee they doubted that he was alive and then afterwards they met Jesus in Galilee and they eventually believed.

No Contradiction

I will continue from where I Left Off.

God Bless you all
